Sustaining Cows through Historic Drought

The terrible drought that necessitated KCEA’s food relief program (FB post Nov 18th) is also starving the cattle on which Maasai depend. It’s also destroying the milk collection program through which KCEA has helped so many families (FB post Feb 2). KCEA’s supporters' generosity allowed us to mount a high-risk high-benefit livestock relief program; we aimed to feed families’ critical livestock until the long-delayed rains came. A month ago, Jon organized the purchase and delivery of 1000 bales of hay for KCEA families and villages. Getting the hay back to homes and villages required improvisation and hard work. Jon says "The beneficiaries thronged the storage to pick their bales they all appreciated so deeply in their hearts. The timing of the relief seems to have been wonderful, as rain is just beginning to fall.
