Abigail: Girl from Oloongila
This is a long-overdue update. KCEA is committed to doing a better job of updating supporters about all that’s going on.
Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, 51 Maasai young women are getting an education this year: 38 in secondary school and 13 in primary school. Last year was a very difficult year due to COVID 19, and as a result, this academic year started in April. But due to the home-based learning program run by KCEA, our students continued to learn amazingly well last year.
We celebrate each of our students. One of them is Abigail. She joined KCEA this year, starting Form 1 (~9th grade in the U.S) in Siana Girls Secondary School. She is the first from her tiny village of Oloongila to be supported by KCEA. MANY Maasai village elders are opposed to the education of women, which is contrary to Maasai tradition. Abigail’s father is 70 years old and never attended school. Jon Keshe (the KCEA founder in Kenya) is overjoyed. He says “In our maasai traditional setup it's so rare for a 70 year old man to allow his daughter to go to school but he has happily allowed Abigail to go to school”. and Abigail with her father at a KCEA workshop that mentors students and families in “Life Skills”.
